The CDLC is pleased to announce that our recent paper, Lifetime and diffusion distance of singlet oxygen in air under everyday atmospheric conditions (https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2020/cp/d0cp00739k#!divAbstract), was given the honor of being featured as a cover article in the journal Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. The cover features a picture of singlet oxygen taken by Professors Jin-Hanh Kim and Hye Ran Koh.
The paper finds a practical application of otherwise toxic singlet oxygen as we find that singlet oxygen can serve as a unique sterilizing agent that becomes harmless oxygen approximately 3 seconds after its generation or at positions more than 1 cm from the singlet oxygen source, which could be used, for example, on household electronics operating under everyday atmospheric conditions.
